What it is and what it does

A standard membrane is a rolled TFC element inside a plastic shell with glued end caps. This one is fully molded: the shell is formed around the element in a single piece, with no seam and no glue line. It does the same job as any RO membrane, forcing water through a thin polyamide film that rejects dissolved salts, but it does it on water that would scale or leak a standard element.

It is rated at 100 gallons a day, about 378 litres under test conditions, for feed water up to 3000 ppm, and it rejects 96 to 98 percent of the salt in that feed. The molded body cannot be opened, so it also cannot be refilled with a cheaper element and resold as new. That is what leak-proof and tamper-resistant mean in practice.

What it fits, and what it does not

It fits a domestic RO purifier whose pump can drive a 100 GPD element; the LUX-PUMP-100 at 140 PSI is the matching pump in the range. Confirm the membrane housing in your unit before ordering, exactly as you would for any replacement membrane.

What it does not do is replace a water softener. Very high TDS usually comes with high hardness, and hardness scales a membrane no matter what the membrane is rated for. Above about 2000 ppm the site's TDS guide recommends a resin pre-softener ahead of the RO; the molded membrane is for the salt, the softener is for the scale. It also does not fit behind a weak pump: a 100 GPD element on a pump built for 50 or 80 GPD produces less water than the smaller membrane it replaced.

When to choose it over the standard 100 GPD

Choose it when feed TDS is above 2000 ppm, which in practice means coastal aquifers, saline intrusion and deep borewells. Choose it, too, if you have had a membrane leak at the end caps before and want a body that cannot. It costs ₹100 more than the standard 100 GPD element.

Below 2000 ppm that ₹100 buys you the sealed construction and nothing else. The standard 100 GPD makes the same output on the same pump, and the 80 GPD is the right call for a standard pump. Buy the molded membrane for the water it is rated for, not as a general upgrade.

What goes wrong if you pick the wrong membrane

Put a standard 1812 on 2500 ppm feed and it works on day one and fails early, usually with output TDS climbing within months as scale and salt load take the film. Put this molded membrane on a purifier with a small pump and you get lower output and more water down the drain than before, because the pump cannot hold pressure across a larger element. Both mistakes look like a bad membrane. Neither is.

When to replace it, and the symptom

Eighteen to twenty-four months is the range for a membrane, and on 2000-plus ppm feed expect the shorter end. Keep a TDS meter and write down the output reading the day it is installed. When that number has roughly doubled, or the tank is filling markedly slower, it is done. On this feed water, check the reading monthly rather than quarterly; a membrane past its best on very salty water lets a lot of salt through.

Which LUXGEN parts it works with

Pair it with the 100 GPD booster pump unless the pump already in your unit is a healthy 100 GPD type. Keep the chlorine off it with a fresh carbon cartridge, the Universal-Fit or Branded-Fit depending on your housing, and a sediment stage ahead of that. Note that the two-candle pre-filter kit is rated to 2000 ppm; above that, check the rating of whatever pre-filter housing you use.
