What it is and what it does
A spun cartridge is made by melt-blowing polypropylene fibre into a tube. This one is built in two layers of different density: a looser outer layer that traps the coarse sand and rust, and a tighter 5 micron inner layer that stops the fine silt. Water goes in through the outside and out through the core.
The gradient is the point. A single-density cartridge loads its whole thickness at once and flow drops as soon as the surface blinds. The two-layer build holds the coarse material in the outer layer, so the fine layer keeps working and the cartridge keeps flowing for longer on silty water. You get two in the pack, which works out to about ₹130 each.
What it fits, and what it does not
It fits a standard 10-inch housing with a plain cap, the type where the cap presses down on a full-length cartridge to seal it. That is the bowl in the LUX-PFK-2C kit and in most generic wall-mounted pre-filters. Open the housing, look at the cap, and if there is no threaded socket in its centre, this is the cartridge.
It does not fit a 10-inch housing with a female-thread cap. Those take a 9-inch threaded candle; a 10-inch spun cartridge has no thread and is too long once the cap goes on. That housing needs the 9-inch yarn-wound candle. It also does not replace a Branded-Fit cartridge inside a brand-name purifier, where the ends and dimensions are specific to that housing.
When to choose it over the wound cartridges
Choose the spun pack for a plain-cap pre-filter bowl on borewell or tanker water, where silt load is the problem and holding capacity matters. Choose it when you want a spare on hand so the next change is a five-minute job rather than an order. It is the cheapest per cartridge of the sediment options here.
Do not choose it for a threaded-cap bowl, and do not choose it for the sediment slot inside a branded purifier; those need the Branded-Fit wound cartridge. For a generic 10-inch slot inside a locally assembled purifier, the Universal-Fit wound cartridge and this spun cartridge both fit; the spun holds more silt, the wound is rated for 12 months.
What goes wrong if you pick the wrong cartridge
Force a 10-inch spun into a threaded-cap housing and the cap will not seat; force the cap anyway and the bowl leaks or the cartridge is bypassed, sending silt straight to the carbon block. Put a single-density cartridge where this two-layer one belongs on heavy silt and it clogs in weeks, dropping pressure to the pump and the membrane behind it.
When to replace it, and the symptom
Six to eight months on borewell water, up to twelve on municipal. The symptoms are flow slowing at the purifier and the cartridge turning brown across most of its length; on a clear bowl you can see it happen. Because the pack has two, change on the symptom rather than the calendar, and reorder when you fit the second one.
