What it is and what it does
A wound polypropylene sediment cartridge in the standard 10-inch size, the dimension used by generic filter housings everywhere and by the purifiers assembled by local dealers from standard parts. It stops sand, rust and silt at 5 microns, passes 0.5 gallons a minute, takes 125 PSI, and lasts up to 12 months on clean supply.
It is the sediment stage for the majority of purifiers that were not sold by a national brand. Inside the cartridge it is identical to the Branded-Fit version; the only difference is the outside dimensions and how the ends seat. It costs the same, ₹190.
What it fits, and what it does not
It fits the standard 10-inch housing: generic wall bowls with a plain cap, and the sediment slot inside locally assembled or unbranded purifiers. The PFK-2C housing kit is a standard 10-inch bowl and should take it; confirm the cap is the plain type. If the cartridge you are replacing is a plain white 10-inch tube with flat ends and no thread, this is its replacement.
It does not fit the housings inside major-brand purifiers, whose ends and length are cut differently; those take the Branded-Fit cartridge. And it does not fit a threaded-cap bowl, which needs the 9-inch candle.
When to choose it over the Branded-Fit or the spun pack
Choose it whenever your housing is the standard 10-inch type and you want the rated 12-month life of a wound cartridge. Against the Branded-Fit the decision is mechanical only; if both seal, this is the one to buy on principle, since there is nothing the Branded-Fit does better.
Against the two-layer spun pack, which fits the same plain-cap bowls, this wound cartridge carries a published 12-month rating and a 125 PSI limit; the spun pack holds more silt per cartridge and comes as two. On heavy borewell silt, spun; on cleaner water where you change once a year, this.
What goes wrong if you pick the wrong fit
Fitted into a brand housing it is a millimetre or two off at the ends and never seals, so water bypasses it and silt lands on the carbon block. Fitted into a threaded-cap bowl it simply does not go in. In either case the sediment stage is quietly doing nothing, and the next thing to fail is the membrane, which is the expensive one. A minute with the housing open prevents both.
When to replace it, and the symptom
Up to 12 months on municipal supply; 6 to 8 months on borewell water. Watch for flow dropping at the purifier and for the cartridge browning through most of its length. Because it sits ahead of everything else, changing it late costs more than the cartridge: it shortens the carbon and the membrane too.
Which LUXGEN parts it works with
Pair it with the Universal-Fit carbon cartridge in the next slot, which is also the cheaper of the two carbon options. Between them they protect the 80 GPD, 100 GPD or molded membrane. In a wall bowl it can share duty with the spun pack on the same housing.
